How to find the right replacement window parts - casement operators and accessories

There are different makers and many models of casement window hardware in the market. This article will focus on the most common ones.

We’ll discuss how to find correct casement window operators (also called window cranks) and related accessories.

There are four categories of casement window operators we’ll discuss in detail.

1.Tradition and Contour single straight arm operators.

Tradition and Contour single straight arm operators are functionally interchangeable, with slight differences in appearance. The Tradition operator is squarer shaped and the Contour operator is rounder shaped. To select the right operator for this group, you need to verify the following points:

  • Ensure the cast size on the operator is around 4” (103mm). 
  • Ensure the dimensions of the cut-out hole on the profile, where the operator goes through the window frame, is around 3.8”x0.5” (96mm x 12mm).
  • Measure the length of the straight arm, as shown in dimension A. There are three sizes available 7.5”, 9.5” and 13.5”.
  • Decide between plastic roller and stainless steel roller at the end of arm, which works with different operator tracks. Majority of these tradition and contour operators in the market are plastic rollers. If yours is stainless steel roller, contact us for further assistance. 
  • Decide between right hand and left hand, the operators on the picture shown are right hand.

2. Decore, Grande or Eclipse dual arm operators and accessories.

This category of operators are interchangeable, they have the same mechanism with different cast and cover/handle, which give them different appearances. To select the right operator and accessories for this category, you need to verify the following points:

  • Find which model (Decore, Grande, Eclipse) resembles your existing operator. There may be slight differences from other brands but they are interchangeable.
  • Ensure the cast size is around 5.1” (130mm).
  • Ensure the size of cut out hole on profile, where the operator go through the window frame, is around 4.9”x0.6” (125mm x 15mm).
  • Measure the overall length, as shown in dimension A. There are two sizes at around 18.8” (478mm) or 15.9” (404mm), the majority of these dual arm operators in the market are 18.8”(478mm). If yours is 15.9”(404mm), call us for further assistance.
  • Find which style at the end of the straight arm. From the picture, majority of this group operator is style A with a rivet pin. There is a black color plastic shoe (not shown in diagram) snapped on the pin, the shoe can be pulled out from the pin. When replacing the operator with a different brand, replace the shoe or track with shoe at the same time. If yours is style B (with riveted roller) or C (with riveted slider), call us for further assistance.
  • Decide between right hand and left hand, the operators on the picture shown are right hand.
  • To choose Decore operator cover/handle, find the color dot (green or red dot) on your operator and match the color dot on cover/handle. The cover/handle is not interchangeable between brands.
  • Find the brand name on your operator if available, when you replace with different brand operator, you should replace the stud bracket (installed at corner of the window sash to connect with operator) at the same time. It is important to match your bracket shape, pin position, and left/right orientation.

3. Decore, Grande or Eclipse dyad operators and accessories.

This category of operators are interchangeable, they have the same mechanism with different cast and cover/handle, which give them different appearances. To select the right operator and accessories for this category, you need to verify the following points (please reference pictures of dual-arm operators):

  • Find which model (Decore, Grande, Eclipse) resembles your existing operator. There may be slight differences from other brands but they are interchangeable.
  • Ensure the cast size is around 5.1” (130mm).
  • Ensure the size of the cut-out hole on the profile, where the operator go through the window frame, is around 4.9”x0.6” (125mm x 15mm).
  • Decide between right hand and left hand, the operators on the picture shown are right hand.
  • To choose Decore operator cover/handle, find the color dot (green or red dot) on your operator and match the color dot on the cover/handle. The cover/handle is not interchangeable between brands.
  • Find the brand name on your operator if available, when you replace it with a different brand operator, you should replace the stud bracket (installed at the corner of the window sash to connect with the operator) at the same time. It is important to match your bracket shape, pin position, and left/right orientation.

4. Face mount single straight arm operators

To select the right operator, you need to verify the following points:

  • Measure the length of the straight arm, as shown in dimension A. There are three sizes available 7.5”, 9.5” and 13.5”.
  • Decide between the plastic roller and stainless steel roller riveted at the end of the arm, which works with different operator tracks. The majority of this operator in the market is a stainless roller. If yours is a plastic roller, contact us for further assistance. 
  • Find front mount or rear mount. The front mount installed the screw in front and visible the screw inside the room.
  • Decide between right hand and left hand, the operator on the picture shown is right hand.
